Kate Ullman - Member At Large

(She/Her)

“Being a doer and adventurer has always been part of my journey in life.”

Kate is a native New Yorker who completed her early education there before earning an additional degree at the University of Miami. Her next adventure began in 1966, when she worked in Cherry Grove before moving to San Francisco. She became a jewelry designer for high-fashion department stores nationwide, until her career took an unexpected turn into buying and selling antiques and vintage items.

In the mid-1980s, Kate and her partner founded The Schlep Sisters, a vintage store in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood, which they ran until 1999. That year, she moved to Palm Springs and launched Everything Goes Estate Sales, serving the Coachella Valley.

Most importantly, Kate has always loved bringing people together. A natural “doer,” she has spent years helping build community. She helped establish the Rainbow Alliance at the Palm Desert Center for Spiritual Living, co-founded the L-Fund and served on its board for seven years, started PS Singles Mingle, helped bring the Dyke March to Palm Springs Pride, and founded The Improvables, a local improv performance group. Along the way, these efforts have created lasting friendships, meaningful connections, and opportunities for people to work together.

Today, Kate’s passion is especially focused on co-founding and building Lesbians Embracing Aging (LEA). She believes we don’t have to grow old alone. We need each other, perhaps more than ever, and we are stronger, healthier, and happier when we stay connected to our community.

With her wisdom and experience, Kate has always been someone who comes up with ideas and wants to see where they might lead. For her, it has always been about connection, knowing there are people who care, and recognizing that there is still so much friendship, laughter, and life ahead of us.

"Together, we can make a difference by staying connected, supporting one another, and growing stronger as a community!"
